7 Ways to Play Feng Shui With ME!

8/21/2012

So you've heard of feng shui ... maybe you've read a book or two about it ... and maybe you've played with feng shui in your own home or business ... but now you're looking for a little more support with applying it or a second set of eyes to help you see around your challenges.  Here are several ways to get more support from me with your feng shui practices ....

1. Come to a CLASS!
This Saturday I'll be at the Crystal Cave from 11-3.  You can schedule a 30 minute private feng shui appointment with me. Bring your home floor plan. We'll review the floor plan and talk about your goals and challenges.  You'll leave with a quick list of easy changes you can make right away!    Call 508-242-9550 to reserve your time slot. Only $45.
More details and more classes here.

2. Join a Feng Shui Work Group.
Work Groups are kinda like a mastermind group.  Everyone comes together to learn and apply some positive changes to their life. I facilitate the Work Group and provide coaching and guidance along the way. It's a very empowering and supportive way to apply feng shui principles to your space/life.  Groups are purposefully kept small so everyone gets the attention they need. I'm offering two different work groups this fall:
The Five Week Feng Shui Work Group (begins September 17)
The Four Week Clear Your Clutter Work Group (begins October 22)
More details here.

3. Email me your questions or post them on Facebook.

I'll get an answer back to you shortly!

4. Book a phone consultation.

We'll talk by phone for about an hour, discussing your goals and reviewing pictures of each room in your space. By the end of the hour you'll have a clear action plan of feng shui  changes you can put into place.

5. Book an on-site consultation.
Lets set up a full feng shui evaluation of your home or business. You'll complete some pre-consultation questions so we know where to begin. We'll tour your home and talk about what works and doesn't work. The tour usually takes about two hours. We'll finish up by completing a check list and action plan that you can implement at your own pace.  In addition, you can choose additional follow up support and coaching at whatever level you need.
Check out all the consultation options here.

6. Host a feng shui home party.

Gather a group of your closest friends at your home and I'll come over to teach some Feng Shui basics using your home as an example.  Email me for details!

7. Book me to speak about feng shui for your group
.
Do you need a speaker who can inspire your group or audience with a unique topic? I LOVE talking about Feng Shui and would be pleased to create a presentation for your friends, membership group or professional chapter. Attendees will interact, have fun and leave with plenty of valuable information that they can implement immediately in their homes and businesses!  Call me at 508-440-9357 or  send me an email if you would like to know more.

And of course you can always just keep reading this blog!  Which is much appreciated:-)  Happy Feng Shui-ing everyone.

What needs weeding in your life?

Weeding seems to be the theme for me this month.  July was busy and we weren't outside in our yard much ... now I wander outside and everywhere I look the weeds seem to be winning more and more space in my landscape.  I'm not much of a gardener, but I can pull weeds ... I even find it rather soothing and meditative.  Someday I'll have a lush garden too, but for now, I'm just weeding out the bad and making room for what's to come in my garden.

Now step inside my home and the weeding continues!  I'm weeding out things that we just don't use or need anymore.  Like weeding the garden, I need to do this often or else I start to lose the battle.  With two growing kids, we OUTGROW stuff quickly.  There are constantly new things coming into the house and the old just simply has to go or else there is NO ROOM TO GROW!

This year I decided to take it a bit farther ... and weed out some habits that don't serve me or my family either.  I've noticed when maintaining my house that I can't keep up.  I can spend HOURS cleaning off the kitchen counter ... only to have it completely cluttered again by the end of the day.  I can put away the pile of stuff inside my bedroom door only have it reappear soon again.  I'd like to blame everyone else in the family.  (I've actually tried that ... but then as I stomp around putting stuff away I realize half of the stuff was put there by me ... I don't remember where, why or when, but I know it was me ... dammit!).  So I may not be the only offender ... but I admit to being the worst offender in the house.  Here's how it goes:
  • I put the dishes from breakfast in the sink or on the counter instead of taking 5 more seconds to put it in the dishwasher ....then the rest of the dishes end up piling up all day!
  • I take my shoes off and put them inside my bedroom door instead of taking three more steps (and maybe 15 seconds) and putting them inside the closet where they belong.
  • I walk into a clean bathroom to get ready in the morning and then rush off to the next thing ... leaving the hair dryer, brush, toothpaste etc on the counter ... it would have taken me 10 seconds to put it all away ....
  • I pull out a pen to write a note and don't put it back in the drawer when I'm done (a one second fix!) ...
  • I take out the thermometer to check a temperature and leave it on the counter (for days) when it would have taken me 30 seconds to return it to the bathroom cabinet ....
And of course I have my excuses (the kids started fighting and I never got back to it ... the water started boiling over and I had to tend to that ... we were late and I didn't have time .... ).  Does this stuff sound familiar to anyone else out there?!!  I'm sharing my story with this because I'm pretty sure others are caught in this spiral too ....

In the end, what it really comes down to for me is that I'm not being present while I go through my day.  I'm not even aware of the turmoil I'm leaving in my path until it's a disaster and I have to find an hour or two to get control of it again.  Add in the things left unfinished by my husband and the 12 toys and games my kids have started and not finished in the last two hours and I AM IN THE WEEDS!  It's nearly impossible to catch up again.  I (yes, it's usually me) spend hours trying to clean up the damage done in the same places over and over, while the rest of the house and other things that I'd like to make a priority fall victim to neglect!  It's nearly impossible to ever get ahead of the game when we are living like this.

So here I am ... aware of something that's no longer working.  And I'm tired of getting mad about it.  I'm changing the habit because I really want it to be different.  Like the saying goes ... if you want something to be different tomorrow then you have to do something different today.  So the new habit I'm cultivating this summer is to move a little slower, to be present and aware of every task I undertake from beginning TO THE END, and finish what I start.  I might be a few minutes late but my counters will be clean and more manageable ... and that makes this mommy very happy .... which makes my whole family much happier too.  (And that's good feng shui!)

What habits would you like to weed out this summer?  Please share in the comments below.

Going for the Gold ...

Now for the fun stuff:
I figured the Summer Olympics provided the perfect lead-in to talking about using feng shui to support your own personal goals!

Have you been watching the Olympics this summer?  You might have seen the commercial where a young teenager is watching one of the meets on their smart phone.  The teen sees the Olympian break a record and then immediately goes into their bedroom and erases the old goal time they had posted up and writes down the new record time.  You can see by the posters and sports equipment in the room that the teen is clearly training in the same sport and clearly has the a goal to be in the Olympics and break that new record!  Athletes use this form of visual encouragement all the time in training to win.  This is feng shui at it's best!

Are you striving for a Gold Medal?  Maybe not.  But I'm sure you have a goal of some sort ... getting straight A's, losing weight, exercising more, spending more time with the family ... once the goal is clear you can support it by enhancing your environment with personal symbols and reminders.

Most recently, my goal has been to remember to take my vitamins.  Since having kids I can't seem to remember to do it!  Recently, with that goal in mind, I rearranged things in my kitchen and refrigerator.  I moved my vitamins to the same cabinet that hold my tea mugs (I ALWAYS remember my tea!)  and I moved the vitamins that need to be stored in the fridge from the bottom of the door (where I never look!) to the same shelf the milk is on (I pull the milk out 40 times a day!)   Now these vitamins are in a place that I will never overlook.  These are simple changes that I made in my space have helped solidify new habits that will get me to my goal!  I'm happy to report it's working for me!

What's your goal?  (Knowing the goal is the first key ... even in feng shui!) How can you support achieving your goal by using feng shui in your space?   Think about it .... shift some things around and let me know how it all goes by posting in the comments section below.
